TTI Signs MOA with Korea Transport Institute

The Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Korea Transport Institute (KOTI). The MOA was signed during a visit by a Korean delegation to TTI on July 12.

The day included presentations by KOTI and TTI leadership. The three-member Korean delegation consisted of Dr. Chang Woon Lee, president of KOTI; Dr. Choong Yeol Ye, chief director for global transport research of KOTI, and Dr. Kyuok Kim, head of KOTI’s electric vehicle research, who received his PhD from Texas A&M University. The TTI contingent was led by Dr. William R. Stockton, executive associate director and included Dr. Myung Ko, Dr. Don Kang, Dahye Lee and Robert Wunderlich.

The five-year MOA recognizes that each institute is a center of excellence with common interests that will benefit from collaboration. The MOA, in part, agrees to

•   Promote the exchange of technical information in areas of mutual interest and expertise;

•   Develop collaborative research efforts in areas of mutual interest and expertise, and publish the results of this research by joint authorship;

•   Encourage the exchange of administrative staff and professional researchers;

•   Prepare short- and long-term plans for collaboration between the two institutes;

•   Designate a coordinator for each institute through whom individual work tasks will be negotiated; and

•   Make every reasonable effort to provide the necessary resources for collaboration within the limits prescribed by the laws of the institutes’ respective countries.

“There are many areas of research, professional training and technical assistance that are of common interest between our two agencies,” said Ko. “Today’s signings recognize that a collaborative effort will be of mutual benefit and will serve to establish enduring ties of cooperation.”

Wunderlich, director of TTI’s Center for Transportation Safety, and Ye will serve as coordinators for this effort.

“There are many areas of research, professional training and technical assistance that are of common interest between our two agencies,” said Dr. Myung Ko from TTI. “Today’s signings recognize that a collaborative effort will be of mutual benefit and will serve to establish enduring ties of cooperation.”
